SEASON TWELVE CUSTOMS
First batch of Tom Baker customs. The Tom era is one that has been handled pretty well by Character, which is not to say that there aren't a few holes that need filling...
First up:
WIRRN
Probably the biggest omission on my wishlist, this is a fabulous and very atypical monster from one of Tom's best-regarded stories.
Obviously this isn't a custom that lends itself to the normal resculpt of a blank figure. Rather than hunting down a suitable base body for something non humanoid, it's often as easy to build one from scratch.
The body was built up from a plastic tube, and the tail section from foil wrapped in electrical tape, sculpted over, The legs were all created from bent wire, with putty over the top - the central ones are fitted into the torso with ball and socket joints to allow for some slight poseability - something that's missing from the rest of this figure!
The prop as seen on screen is a solid cylinder, with no kind of tail section (the bottom never really being shown on screen). I followed the lead of the Eaglemoss figurine and some of the model shots by giving it a pincer at the end of his tail.
VOGAN
From the tail end of the season comes an accompaniment to the Revenge Cybermen we already have. I've gone for Vorus, as the principal antagonist from the Vogan race (and the best looking costume).
This is one of those customs that presented an obvious choice of base body, the Voc robots - the shaping of the tunic seemed a really good match. I dremelled the texture off it to have a smooth base to sculpt all the details over (slowly and painfully). I was also hoping to keep the Voc trousers and cut the small windows in it to duplicate the Vogan look, but this ended up not looking great, so I went for a complete resculpt instead.
