SEASON ONE CUSTOMS

 Right then, onto the meat of the blog - the various figures I've customised over the years. Up until now, I've released them in batches of figures per Doctor, but I think I'll split them up here into groups by Season, in random order. This spreads the content out a bit, and allows me room to post slightly longer write-ups without you having to plough through acres of copy...

 I suspect I'll have to take new images and update as I go along - these aren't the best...

First up:

VOORD

 

The earliest custom by series chronology in my collection, but not the most taxing. Base figure is an Invasion Cyberman - it seemed like a good fit, as they're similarly wet suit styled costumes. Removing the chest unit and piping meant holes to fill in, but otherwise it was a case of adding flippers and sculpting his head. 

 

As I recall, the helmet lugs were a case of adding thin strips of plastic into the sculpt, as a base to add putty to. The triangular prong was similarly cut from plastic, and very fiddly to get just right. At least the paint job was a simple one.

 

 

Years after finishing this, I bought the Eaglemoss figurine and discovered that the head of mine isn't quite on model – it wants a spiked crest on the back of the helmet. I'll have to go back in down the line and fix that. Maybe give him a knife at the same time.

SENSORITE

Another fairly simple job. Base figure is Martha Jones, as much because of the bell bottom trousers being a useful link for the feet. But I think I also felt a shorter figure would be right for the Sensorites.

Most of the costume details and head were sculpted in milliput, with discs of plasticard under the feet to support the putty (I often do this as a means to sculpt feet). The whiskers are bits of hair offcut from other figures and embedded into the putty.

 

The communicator is a small piece of plastic glued to the end of a plastic twist tie - if you buy lots of toys, keep these - they're handy for lots of customising jobs!
